Ok, I’ll admit it: I love living in Lucca and showing it off to guests!

Perhaps not as well known as Florence or Chianti, Lucca is a marvelous place to spend an extended holiday. With about 90,000 people, it is busy enough to always have many things to do, yet small enough so you get to know your neighbors, shopkeepers and others so you feel a great connection with the Italian people.

Northern Tuscany has so many treasures: we are a half hour from the great beach towns of Viareggio and Forte Dei Marmi. The Cinque Terre is about 2 hours away. Pisa is close, Florence an hour or so by train and Chianti a little further by car, all of which can make great day trips. But don’t ignore Lucca itself, a walled city with great shopping and culture. Puccini lived here and there are lots of musical and cultural events throughout the year.

And did I mention the food? It is simple, earthy and delicious. I know all the best little places to recommend you to dine. And the Luccan olive oil is the best in all of Italy!

Though I am not from Lucca, I guess I knew I was here to stay was when I bought a horse for my passion of riding and jumping!

What brought me to Lucca was the opportunity to be the concierge at the 5 star Borgo Bernardini property. I am now delighted to be a VillaHost with A Season Away, bringing my knowledge and passion of the area to help you discover a holiday that will bring memories that last a lifetime.
