Things to do with Kids
Lucca is a great place to be with children, with many things to keep them occupied.
- It is close to the wide seaside beaches of Viareggio, Camaiore di Mare and Forte di Marmi.
- Pinocchio was created in Tuscany, so there is even a small theme park dedicated to him not far from Pisa in his hometown of Collodi.
- What child isn’t fascinated by the Leaning Tower of Pisa
- Lucca itself is not to be overlooked, with its wide park atop the city walls that surround the city, children and adults alike can stroll and ride bikes while overlooking the town and surrounding hills. Since Lucca is largely a pedestrian city with the second highest concentration of bikes of any city in Italy, it is safe for all to walk around.
- Ask your VillaHost about holding a pizza making party, where everyone gets to roll out the dough and put on their favorite toppings before popping the creations in the oven for about 90 second, producing some of the thinnest, best-tasting pizza imaginable.
- For slightly older children, Florence and Siena really best represents the Renaissance in Europe, from art and sculpture to ancient buildings.
- Take children to see how leather is made in a workshop in Florence.
- Surprisingly, children love the town of Carrara, where marble for Michelangelo’s masterpieces were quarried (and still are today) and the town of Pietrasanta, a kind of artists haven nearby.
- Chocolate tasting in the Chocolate Valley, near Prato, between Lucca and Florence.
- See how mozzarella cheese is made from milking the cow to actually shaping the mozzarella
