A Season Away

In the far north of Provence, in the shadow of Mt. Ventoux, lies the Vaucluse, known for its hilly terrain, terrific cherries and for being the site of the most grueling Tour de France bicycling “stage.” It also is more off-the-beaten path from most of Provence and has a host of some of the most beautiful villages in France, perfect for touring, by car, bike or on foot. Vaison La Romain, both an old Roman town and a medieval city, is a must. So is Carpentras, Orange, Segueret and Venasque. Some of the best olive oil in France is produced in Nyons.
