Where is Chianti
Chianti is in central Italy and is roughly bordered by Florence to the north, Siena to the South, Arezzo to the East and both Pisa and Lucca to the west.
It is comprised of rolling hills of farmland, dotted with Sangiovese vines that make up the well-known Chianti Classico wines, olive trees for wonderful olive oil and general farming. Because the Chianti countryside was part of a centuries-old political tug of war between Florence and Siena, many of the towns of the area are fortified villages on hilltops, to protect them from siege.
With Chianti as a home base, you'll feel part of Italian life and can visit many small medieval towns and villages such as San Gimignano, Certaldo, Barberino, Greve, and others that add charm to the area. You can also head to daily markets, participate in many local festivals and seek out the cities of Florence, Siena, Lucca or Pisa to wander among centuries old monuments and museums and sample Tuscan food and wine.
